Ogier Fiduciary Services Guernsey sponsor Young Enterprise Scheme

April 30, 2012

Ogier Fiduciary Services Guernsey have sponsored the Young Enterprise Scheme again. Bob Banfield presented a prize at the awards evening to the winning company of the Ogier-sponsored award – ‘Best Company Report’.

The Young Enterprise Company Presentations & Awards Evening was held at the Beau Sejour Centre, Guernsey, on Thursday 26th April 2012 and was attended by Bob Banfield, Andrew Munro and Claire Long.

Young Enterprise is a national education charity founded in the UK in 1963 and has operated in Guernsey since 1982 – they are celebrating their 30th anniversary in the island this year. It’s purpose is to forge links between schools and industry, and its mission is to inspire and equip young people to learn and succeed through enterprise.

Local students from various island schools took part in the scheme this year.  They were divided into small groups which then form a company under the guidance of volunteer mentors.  Each company appoints a board of directors and sets out to source or design a product to sell or provide a service to generate income for their company.  The scheme provides the participants with experience of a wide range of skills required to run a successful business, with the added bonus of being able to donate the final proceeds of their endeavours to a charity of their choice.

Each company provided a written report on their company which included details of their management structure and responsibilities, their products and activities in terms of operations, marketing and sales, together with a financial report (all profits are then donated to a local charity).  The winning company of the Ogier award this year was ‘Zest’.  Bob Banfield commented “Every year the standard of the company reports produced by all the students is extremely high and it is always difficult to chose a winner. I was very impressed by the quality of the documents and could see the extent of the effort and enthusiasm which has gone into their preparation.   It is great to see that Guernsey has a large number of talented students interested in developing their business acumen”.
